The major highlights of the Qantas Airways change flight policy are as follows:
- All changes made directly through Qantas Airways by phone, email, offices, and airport locations will incur a service fee in addition to the change fee mentioned in the fare rules.
- Flex fares can be changed free of charge but the fare difference (if any) must be paid.
- Most Saver fares can be changed free of charge but the fare difference (if any) must be paid.
- Most Sale fares cannot be changed.
- International and trans-Tasman flight tickets can be changed free of charge till December 31, 2022, as long as you pay the applicable fare difference. This applies to:
- International Qantas flights that have been booked for travel between February 25, 2021, and June 30, 2022, with travel dates between November 1, 2021, and December 31, 2022.
- Trans-Tasman Qantas flights between Australia and New Zealand booked for travel between October 15, 2021, and June 30, 2022, with travel dates between October 16, 2022, and December 31, 2022.
- If you booked your flight through a third-party website or travel agent, you must contact them directly to discuss the available options.
- If your flight is affected due to COVID-19 restrictions and:
- Qantas cancels your flight, wait for the airline to contact you before making any changes. You will be offered:
- An alternative flight to your destination (if possible), or
- A Flight Credit for future travel, or
- A refund
- You no longer wish to travel, you can either cancel your flight (subject to the fare conditions of your ticket), request a Flight Credit, or change the date and/or time of your flight (subject to the applicable fare difference).
- If you test positive for COVID in the week preceding your travel date, you can change your travel date without incurring a flight change fee, as long as you have documentary evidence to prove it.
- If you’re unable to travel due to illness, Qantas may extend the validity of your ticket for up to 3 months, subject to a valid medical certificate.
- If a co-passenger travelling on the same booking as yours dies during the journey, Qantas may extend the validity of your ticket for up to 45 days after the date of the passenger’s death, as long as you can provide a valid death certificate.
Note. Before travelling, check the latest guidelines issued by the airline and the mandatory tests, quarantine, and health declarations that you must comply with to be able to travel.
- If Qantas cancels your flight:
- On a domestic route within Australia, wait to hear from the airline before making any changes to your booking, including a Classic Reward flight booking. You will be offered the following options:
- Rebooked on the next available flight at no additional cost.
- You will be offered a Flight Credit for future use.
- You will be offered a full refund without being charged a fee
- On an international route, wait to hear from Qantas before making any changes to your flight booking. Qantas will contact you with all the available options, incl. a penalty-free refund. However, if you cancel your flight ticket yourself, you may be charged a cancellation fee depending on your fare rules.
- If you want to make changes to your flight date and/or time:
- Check the fare conditions of your ticket.
- Request a Flight Credit to travel later if you’re not sure when you want to travel.
- And have booked a Classic Flight Reward with your Qantas Points till September 30, 2022, you can change your travel dates without penalty till December 31, 2022 (but you may require additional points to rebook).
- If you’re travelling for non-business purposes but are prevented from doing so due to reasons beyond your control on fare that is partially or fully non-refundable, you are entitled to a Flight Credit for the non-refundable portion of your trip, provided:
- Your ticket is fully unused, and
- You have informed Qantas promptly about it, and
- You can back your claim with proper evidence
Your Flight Credit will be valid for 1 year from the date of issue of your original ticket and may be subject to a service fee.
How to Change Your Travel Date and/or Time?
You can make changes to your travel date and/or time in the following ways:
- By phone
- Online via Manage booking
(only if you purchased your ticket directly through Qantas) - Through your local ticket office
- At the airport office
- Through the travel agent/website you purchased your ticket from

Flight Credits
- Flight Credits Requested by You. If you cancel a flight booking online via Manage booking or through a Qantas office, you may be offered a Flight Credit for future travel.
